This is why you don’t make live bets, kids.
Waiver Weapons - Week Nine:
Last week was a huge success for the newsletter squad. Trey McBride was the overall TE1, Taysom Hill was the TE3, and Pierre Strong was the RB29 in PPR, or the RB25 in Half-PPR. Overall our best week yet. It goes without saying that McBride and Hill are must starts from here on out, but with Ford probably back to healthy this week we will look at other options.
Camaron’s Pick: Demario Douglas, WR, NE (23% rostered on Sleeper) - Kendrick Bourne has unfortunately torn his ACL, so the Patriots offensive opportunities go up for Douglas and last week he capitalized by playing a season high 77% of snaps. The Washington Commanders are a great matchup for passing offenses and Douglas looks to capitalize.
Chris’ Pick: Taylor Heinicke, QB, ATL (12% rostered on Sleeper) - I’m shocked that a guy coming off a performance where he posted 12.4 fantasy points on just a 54% snap share is still so widely available. Heinicke came in to start the second half this Sunday vs. the Titans and dropped 175 yards + a tuddy in his limited time on the field; he could have had more, and possibly even authored a game-winning drive, if not for a critical Van Jefferson drop on 4th and 1 with 1:30 left in the game. Look for Tiny Heini - he’s 6’1” and I’m 6’3” so I get to call him that - to stand out in Week 9 after a full week of practice with the first-team; the Falcons play Minnesota, who are giving up the 10th most points to QBs this season.
Will’s Pick: Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, TEN (21% rostered on Sleeper) - Cam rudely stole my pick this week, so I’m going with a guy that I think should be picked up for the final stretch of the season, rather than a weekly start, since he faces a PIT defense that hasn’t been kind to TEs. Okonkwo has had an abysmal start to the season after immense hype, but I’m a big believer in post-hype sleepers, especially when there’s a change of scenery. Will Levis lit up the scoreboard last week after getting his first playing time. People will point to Okonkwo’s lackluster fantasy performance amidst all the points scores, but there’s two things to consider: 1. It was just the first game with Levis. If a connection is established/seen in any of the following games, it’ll be too late to snag Okonkwo for free. 2. ATLs defense against WRs is terrible, so it makes sense Levis peppered Hopkins.
