Welcome back! Due to a camping trip over the weekend this week’s list might be a little lighter than usual, but there’s still a lot of great info packed in there. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled program next week.
Let’s get it:
News & Notes:
CHI HC Nagy announces that QB Nick Foles will start for Week 4 against the Colts.
“Rumors are flying that Adam Gase will be a goner if the Jets lose on Thursday night. Asked how he's handling the speculation and criticism, Gase said, "This is the NFL. We're 0-3 right now. We haven't played well. We have to improve quickly.”
WAS HC Ron Rivera on QB Dwayne Haskins’ future: “If we never play him, he never grows, but there is a point where you say, ‘OK, maybe taking a step back and watching is the best thing for you now.’”
LAR HC Sean McVay says "I think so" when asked if RB Darrell Henderson will start Sunday based on his performance the last 2 weeks. "He’s a slash type runner, but he’s physical... I think the more that he plays & the more he’s available, the better he’s going to get."
Notable Injury Updates:
I’m going to punt the injury section this week and link you to this handy tool where you can quickly see all the fantasy relevant injury updates.
Articles, Insights, Analysis, Hype:
JAX RB James Robinson went bananas on National TV this past Thursday. I put together a quick compilation of the hype and insights that swirled around the industry following his performance.
There was a lot of buzz over the weekend that ATL RB Brian Hill looked better than RB Todd Gurley. There was also this: “Brian Hill with more points on his last carry than Todd Gurley has had over his past 5 quarters.
YAC leaders through Week 3: Kamara (283), McLaurin (176), Ekeler (173), Hopkins (166), Woods (149), Robinson (132).
BUF QB Josh Allen’s “last 13 full games: 33 total touchdowns [2] interceptions Unbelievable.”
GB WR Allen Lazard “is the only player with a perfect 158.3 passer rating on his targets this season (min. 10+ targets)”
GB RB Aaron Jones “is second in the NFL with 303 rushing yards. Only Derrick Henry has more. Henry has 319. Henry also has 32 more carries in three games. Jones is averaging 6.1 yards per carry on 50 carries this season. In a word, nuts.”
Discussion on /r/fantasyfootball: “Buy Lows / Sell Highs after Week 3.”
“In seven career starts without Melvin Gordon, [LAC RB] Austin Ekeler has seen 18, 24, 16, 23, 20, 20, and 23 touches. Ekeler is averaging 21.3 fantasy points per game without Gordon and has finished as a top-20 scoring RB in 6-of-7 games.”
Just as we all expected, LAR RB Darrell Henderson is the top ranked RB by PFF through three games. Honorable mention for LAR QB Jared Goff at #3 ranked QB. Also: “Darrell Henderson: - 2 games as the lead back - 2 games with 120 total yards.”
NO RB Alvin Kamara “has 280 YAC through [Week 3]. There are only 4 WRs with 280+ total receiving yards.” Also: “If Alvin Kamara had zero rushing stats. Zero. He would be the WR4 in total PPR scoring Ridley DK Metcalf Lockett Kamara Those are best WRs at the moment. Nuts” Also: “Most Fantasy Points by Any RB Through Weeks 1-3 [All-Time] 1. Marshall Faulk, 2000 (109.0) 2. ALVIN KAMARA, 2020 (106.8) 3. Priest Holmes, 2003 (101.7) 4. Priest Holmes, 2002 (101.5) 5. Thurman Thomas, 1991 (101.4) 6. Jim Brown, 1963 (98.9)”
“Top-5 RBs in highest percentage of their team's yards from scrimmage: 1) Alvin Kamara 39.3% 2) James Robinson 30.4% 3) Dalvin Cook 29.9% 4) Austin Ekeler 29% 5) Derrick Henry 28.9%”
“[PHI RB] Miles Sanders so far: Week 2: 20 carries, 7 targets Week 3: 18 carries, 9 targets Feature. Back.”
“[SEA WR] Tyler Lockett Week 1-3: - 8/92 - 7/67/1 - 9/100/3 (30% target share) D.K. Metcalf: - 4/95/1 - 4/92/1 - 4/110/1 (22% target share) Dolphins and Vikings next up”
“Week 3 air yards (no MNF) Ridley 249 Metcalf 170 Conley 160 Keenan 157 Higgins 150 Gallup 140 Boyd 137 Scotty 135 Lockett 129 Jefferson 128 Amari 117”
CIN QB Joe Burrow “started his nfl career facing joey bosa, myles garrett, and the eagles, who sacked him 8 times on sunday. while he was under constant duress, and aj green was being shadowed by darius slay, burrow went 31 of 44 for 312 yards and zero interceptions. kid is FOR REAL.”
“Important [HOU WR] Will Fuller notes from yesterday: * 94% of the snaps * Didn't get hurt * Plays MIN, JAX, TEN, GB, JAX next”
Cold Water:
“The good news for [PHI QB] Carson Wentz is he gets the 49ers, Steelers, and Ravens over the next three weeks.”
“Unfathomably bad stat alert: Giants running backs this season, through 3 games, have rushed only 40 times for just 72 yards. How??”
“[ARI RB] Kenyan Drake averaged 4.4 targets per game in eight with ARZ last season. So far this year he's gone full Derrick Henry, just 1.7 targets per game. Small sample, but still quite #bad.”
“DET used the 43rd overall pick on Kerryon Johnson. And the 35th overall pick on D'Andre Swift. They're both healthy. Touches yesterday: * Adrian Peterson 23 * Kerryon Johnson 4 * D'Andre Swift 1”
This one belongs in both hype and cold water: “[WAS TE] Logan Thomas among tight ends: 4th in routes (nice) 2nd in targets (wow!) 3rd in end zone targets (omg!) 10th in receptions (umm) 20th in yards (wait what is happening) 17th in fantasy points (you've got to be kidding me)”
“If McVay had a crystal ball to see Darrell Henderson's performance in Week 3, would the Rams have drafted [RB] Cam Akers? How dramatically did Henderson's performance affect Akers range of outcomes for the next 3 years? Where would Akers go in dynasty rookie drafts today?”
“Chiefs Week 3 offensive snaps: Tyreek Hill 60 Sammy Watkins 65 Demarcus Robinson 41 Mecole Hardman 29 I really have no idea what Hardman needs to do to play over Robinson in 3-WR sets.”
“Bucs HC Bruce Arians says that he told RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn that his time is coming eventually.”
